Angel Kisses ![]() |
I am especially close with my tabby cat, Sammi, whose favorite place to sleep is on my desk next to my paints. Now and then Sammi rouses herself from her nap, daintily picks her way around my scattered paintings, and showers me with nose kisses. She reminds me how easy it is to love. I thank the heavens for bringing this sweet angel into my life!
Autumn Lantern![]() |
There
once was a stone lantern who made its home under a magnificent Japanese
maple tree. The maple tree had been there for years and years and
years. It showed its great wisdom in its rough bark and numerous branches.
At night, the lantern would shine, sending out light through its tiny
window for anyone who wanted to see. (more) |

Bamboo Hideaway ![]() |
There is a bamboo grove right outside my art studio in Maui. Several times a day I walk on a path through the bamboo to the main house and garden. When I walk back I often see my white kitty, Sweetie, waiting for me just like this.
Bird Watching ![]() |
I know a woman who is a wonderful feline foster parent. She nurtures and cares for many abandoned kitties. Looking through her cat album, I laughed when we came upon the photograph she calls "bird watching." (more) |

Breathing In ![]() |
My fiancé, Vaughn Paul, introduced me to a meditation called "Expanding Circles." In the meditation we began by breathing in our surroundings. "Look at the grass right next to you," he said, "Feel how alive it is. Breathe it in." Next he suggested breathing in the yellow wildflowers, then the trees, and slowly expanding my vision outward to the ocean, the open sky, and finally to the light pouring down from the sun. I felt alive, once again connected to all life.
Coming Close ![]() |
I always imagined my partner would be like a dolphin. I wanted to meet somebody loving and spiritual, who has a lot of creative energy, is intelligent, and has a warm, honest heart. I created this painting in June 2003 with the intention of attracting my life partner. We met that same month... and we both “knew.” We are now engaged.
Deep Blue ![]() |
Years ago Kat and I swam with a hundred wild dolphins on a glorious Thanksgiving morning. I imagine this experience turned us into dolphins. We jump and play, often exploring the depths of the vast ocean. Kat and I have been walking the labyrinth. Although one can walk the labyrinth with others, it is an individual journey, a meditation walk within. |

| The full moon has set and it is now dawn. We are surrounded in dolphin blue. The dolphins are playing with the glassy reflection as colors come to life. Their bubbles encircle us, tickling us with delight. Messengers and playmates, they glide by--150 dolphins on a glorious morning. |

Dream![]() |
Years ago a girlfriend asked me about the qualities I wanted in my partner. I replied that I always imagined he would be like a dolphin. I wanted to meet somebody loving and spiritual, who has a lot of creative energy, is intelligent, and has a warm, honest heart. Some years afterwards, I met him. We will soon be married. |

Duet![]() |
Almost every morning I see a pair of cardinals sitting in the angel trumpet tree. They chirp back and forth at one another, as if discussing their plans for the day. I sip my tea and delight in this scene, so natural and simple.
Entrance to Peace ![]() |
Our landlord, Zephyr, recently completed this gateway on the property where I live. The gateway holds a statue of Buddha and a Tibetan prayer wheel. As I pass through it, I spin the prayer wheel and silently say a prayer. This simple ritual delivers me to peace.

Over the years, my fairy garden has transformed with the cycle of life. It has gone through many stages which I have joyously painted, espcially with my adorable white kitty, Sweetie. She loved the fairy garden, and would often be nestled up next to a fairy, or sleeping along side the chicks that would visit. It was her home and sanctuary. Recently, Sweetie passed away in the garden. (more) |

Fairy Jubilee ![]() |
My friend Suzi went to Europe and returned with ceramic plant fairies. That started it all. Now I have a fairy garden! My white kitty, Sweetie, just loves it. She often hangs out there, exchanging enchanted garden stories with the fairies.
Golden Sky Flower ![]() |
Did you know that there are flowers called sky flowers? They grow on Maui out in Wailea. They are beautiful, delicate flowers that hang down from trellises and blow in the soft, ocean breeze. I have seen the white sky flowers... and have recently found out about the “golden sky flower.” Its flowers are colored powder blue while the unopened buds are golden. Here, a butterfly gently perches on a golden sky flower as the morning awakens a new day.
Guava Bath ![]() |
My fiancée gave me a special gift, a guava bath. Many guavas were squeezed and strained, creating a sweet, delicious, pink bath. Candles were lit, incense was burning, and soft instrumental music played in the background. I closed the door and stepped into this creation, fully receiving this gift of love.
Guidance![]() |
My yoga instructor says that we are all unique expressions of love. We are here to unlock and reach beyond our limitations, finding the space to dance the love that we are. Some days I forget. On one such day, I was visiting my fiancé's spiritual teacher in California. I was immersed in grief and left the gathering to take a walk by myself. (more) |

Healing![]() |
We have a breathtaking lily pond. Some water lilies are night blooming, opening only when the sun sets and evening begins. I have watched the moon rays reach down to hold these majestic flowers... an offering of prayer. |
|
Heaven and Earth![]() |
There was a tree stump on the hillside near my home which captivated me. The stump looked like a strong woman, reaching up to the heavens with one hand, andÊ deep into the earth with the other. For years I watched her, in rain, shine, moonlight, starlight, fog and high winds. Through it all she persevered. She showed me how to live by example. (more) |

Hello![]() |
Every once in a while a herd of cows will come up to the fence that boarders the property where I live in Haiku. My white kitty, Sweetie, and I like to go to feed them bread (cows love white bread). Once, much to her complete surprise, Sweetie got a little too close and found herself looking into the nostril of one of the cows! |

| I’ve recently started dialoguing with my hidden, unconscious emotions. I ask a question with my right hand, and let my left hand answer. The honesty of the answer often stuns me. I have learned to "communicate" with the 5 year-old-girl within me using this method.
Q: What do you want? |

Into My Heart ![]() |
In one of the last memories I have of my dad, he was carrying me on his shoulders. After his death, that 5-year-old girl had to quickly grow up. She moved to Japan to start another life with a new language and culture. Her whole world changed instantly. I recently found that little girl inside me again and started hearing and listening to her. I realized, even I had abandoned her, and only I can save her. These days, I invite her to ride on my shoulders and be my friend.
Into the Light ![]() |
I know a place called "Turtle Town" on Maui where Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles live. To be blessed with a glimpse of these majestic creatures in their element is a special treat. They glide through the cascading sun streaked water like aquatic angels radiating their peaceful presence everywhere.
Joy![]() |
In this painting a woman bursts through the light of the rainbow, jumping into the full glory of her own self. She is strong and clear on her purpose. She is sparkling and living her dreams. Surrounded in ribbons of color, she is wrapped in the divine flow of the Universe. I call this heaven on earth. I know this reality is continuously available. It is possible as long as we believe it to be so.
Leaping Into Life![]() |
The deep blue water shimmers, inviting me. I am about to jump off a rope swing, naked, into a lake. Fear grips me. I am actually afraid of being in water and rarely swim in the ocean, almost never in freshwater. “What will happen when I let go of the rope?” Not waiting for an answer I grab the rope and take a running leap, swinging out over the lake. I let go and fall through the sky into the cool, refreshing water. (more)
Learning to Pray ![]() |
My favorite poet, Mary Oliver, asks, “What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” This question speaks to my core and challenges me. Another question then appears, “Are you willing to face all of your fears?” In this painting, a blue bird perches on a tree branch. The tree whispers into its ears saying, "Deliver this message to their Hearts: ‘Find the courage—it’s within you.’”
Little Moons ![]() |
There is a large Koa tree next to our hobbit house bedroom. Koa is a rare and esteemed Hawaiian tropical hardwood. As my fiancé and I drift off to sleep I peer out the window into its branches, enchanted. Its crescent moon-shaped leaves rustle and sway in the evening breeze. (more) |

Java sparrows perch side by side on the banana leaves, waiting for us. When our hobbit house bedroom door opens, they greet us with fluttering wings and happy chirps, “Good morning! Good morning!” As one of our daily rituals, we delight in filling the bird feeder in our garden with wild bird seed. (more) |

Moonlight Dance ![]() |
My fiancé, Vaughn Paul, adores dolphins. He recently asked with a sweet smile, "Will you paint a dolphin painting about us?" I offer this in gratitude to my beloved partner who deepens and widens my life as we continually create our world together. Thank you for this incredible dance! |
