Sunflowers

Every year rows of sunflowers line the entrance to our family home in Bolinas, California. People walking by stop and smile, admiring the exuberant flowers. This year, as I watered the seedlings, I remembered the Mark Nepo poem "God’s Wounds." In the poem, he describes the process of healing great pain with prayer. Pain is now my teacher, too. It is stretching me, and also connecting me to life so I can once again vibrantly bloom.
