Hula dancing is the essence and spirit of Hawai'i. The heart of hula
dancing is poetic text or Mele. Each movement has a particular meaning
and every expression of the dancer's hands has great significance. So
in essence, the hula dancer is telling a visual story. The chanting
aids in narrating this story.
It is a great joy to watch anyone dance the hula, but most especially,
the children. I love seeing their innocent expression of this
beautiful and ancient dance. |
