Eleykaa was born in Japan and raised in San Francisco, Hawaii, and Japan.
She fell in love with watercolor at age seven when she was first introduced
to sumi-e, Japanese brush painting. Art continued to be a hobby until 1999
when she realized it was more than that, it was her passion. She immediately
went out and bought a set of Crayola Watercolors and started painting
full-time. Her philosophy: "If I can do it with Crayola, I can do it with
anything!" Eleykaa has since upgraded her supplies to include high-quality
Italian and Japanese watercolor paints. Her present body of work is
representative of an original technique she calls Illumination Art which
resembles the vibrancy of stained glass. Each painting depicts a story
inspired from a personal experience and is included with her work. Eleykaa
currently paints full-time on the island of Maui.
